Afi Ese
Afi Ese is an African American figurative narrative painter living in Houston, Texas. She holds a M.S. in psychology with a concentration in art therapy. Ese’s work focuses on Black portraiture that venerates West African diasporic history with an emphasis on generational trauma and triumph in rural Black America. Her paintings are conceptualized narratives of the global Black plight through the eyes of a self-aware Black American.
Afi identifies as a disabled artist who is wheel-chair dependent and views artistic ability as a mental skill just as much as a physical skill and aims to show others with disabilities that they can find catharsis and relief through art. Most recently, Ese had a successful solo show at Gallery Guichard in Chicago, IL, was featured in Suboart Magazine’s October 2023 issue with a 12-page spread, and has a solo exhibit at the Jung Center Houston in the fall.

Della Calfee
Diana Waguespack
Diana’s love for art began when she was just a little girl, sitting on the porch drawing and painting with her dad, A.J. Schexnayder, a nationally recognized watercolor artist. She attended the University of Houston where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education/Art All Level. She has taught art and photography through private classes, workshops, and public schools. Most of her teaching career was in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District where she taught art, photography, and was the art department chair at Cypress Falls High School. Diana retired from teaching in the public school system to pursue her passion for Fine Art and Photography. Diana creates many types of art and photography, but Underwater Fine Art Photography is her specialty and first love. Being under water is where she feels the happiest and most free, allowing her mind to view the image and then capture it. It is where she feels the most creative. Diana is an award-winning fine art photographic artist and was awarded Active Photographer of the Year for Professional Photographers Guild Houston in 2020 and 2021. She also has exhibited in several solo art and group exhibits both locally and nationally. She has been published in professional and local magazines, books, and is included as one of 50 artists in the “50 Artist” book to represent Houston 2022. Diana Marie is honored and blessed to have had works alongside some of the best in the world. Diana’s unique style is whimsical and magical, and her mediums include fine art underwater photography, fine art studio portraiture, digital art, alternative photographic processes, watercolor, oil paint, and encaustic waxes. When she creates art, she thinks about how the viewer will feel when they see the image and strives to create a magical art piece they will love and cherish forever.
Diane Gelman
I am a mixed media artist, layering together images, designs, and colors. I often combine paint with collage elements, integrating the paint and collage to form a cohesive and complete whole. Collage is an assemblage of various small objects and forms, which sometimes include layers of paper, found objects, fabric, string, cardboard, or metal leaf. Collage enhances clarity, adds a sense of playfulness, vitality, and a surreal aspect to a carefully crafted, realistic painting. My paintings are improvisations on realistic images fused onto imaginative themes that are rich with light, color and detail. I like to paint innovative pop-art works, inspiring scenes from Nature, interesting people, children, and especially food! My work weaves together layers of designs, textures and meaning. I apply layers over layers, sometimes arranging, sometimes disarranging, gathering, surrounding, weaving, removing or embellishing images, and often carving back into them, to find the real, hidden story underneath each painting.
Much of my artwork is about food. I have been focused on food for my entire life: studying about it, writing about it, teaching it, creating it, sculpting it, and painting it. I am uniquely expert at exploring the interplay between art and food because I am both an artist and a Registered, Licensed Dietitian. My goal is to make food-based artwork that looks good enough to eat off of the canvas!
Diane Gelman received a Certificate in Painting from The Glassell Studio School of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 2012. Diane is also a Registered, Licensed Dietitian and has a Master’s degree in Nutrition from the University of Cincinnati. Diane is originally from Detroit, Michigan and currently lives in Bellaire, Texas (Houston area) with her husband. Diane had a solo food-based show, "FRESH!" in Gallery 200 at the Silos May- July 2018. She had a solo show at Kam’s Restaurant, Houston in 2017. Diane has shown work extensively with the Visual Arts Alliance of Houston, had a solo show of her work at Urban Eats Restaurant in Houston 2016, and was awarded the Frank Garriet’s Purchase Prize from the Beaumont Art League’s 2014 National 52nd annual Juried Exhibition and the Juror’s Choice Award in the Sugarland Art Center 2016 Juried Competition. Diane is a member of the Houston Art Connective.
Donna Carnahan
Donna Carnahan is an international photographer and artist residing in Houston, Texas. She specializes in landscape photography and original artworks inspired by her European travels and by exploring her Czech family heritage . Capturing the scenic aerial views by climbing to heights is a dynamic challenge, especially when traveling alone, as she often does when she explores new places. By grabbing just the right lighting and composition, she captivates her viewers and inspires their souls with the bold, vibrant colors.
Jo Zider
My work deals with social issues of abuse, inequality, prejudices, issues which plague our society and expose the inhumanity that many in our midst have for each other. “Unwanted Children-How Do You Grow Them” speaks to the abortion issue. If our legislators want more children to be born, then why won’t they provide all means possible to help them to grow in a healthy environment and educate them in order that their futures will help them prosper. Who are the women who dare? I am one, an artist who dares to approach subjects that perhaps make people uncomfortable.
Katy Hardin
I have always had a love for anything creative and I began painting as a way to manage anxiety and find calm in a brain that is never quiet. Painting and making a mess allowed me to embrace the freedom of the intuitive brushstroke and stay present in the moment. God has used art to bring me healing in so many ways. I fell in love with the process of creating vibrant paintings that tell a story and I have never looked back. I find the most joy in painting expressive portraits of women that showcase inner strength and finding the inner light that comes from overcoming times of darkness. I hope my paintings will bring healing and happiness to others that find a connection with the underlying message or subject in my work.

Susan Meeks
I’m inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe and her groundbreaking work as a female artist. She dreamt to be known as painter when women were not taken seriously as artists. Flowers are my field of study. My observations come from walks where I first photograph my flowers. The quiet delicate flowers bring me happiness. Blooming flowers signify life and the delicate balance in nature. My goal is to inspire others to look deeper into natural beauty and find peace.
Su Yang
These women are influencers and artists who share an interest in challenging conventional standards of female beauty. I collaborate with them and delve into the endemic anxiety that many women experience regarding the shape of their bodies. Through my art, I convey and depict the imagery of these women, advocating for body liberation and inclusivity.
Su Yang (b. China) calls herself a Chinese feminist. She works with painting, photography, video, and film to explore different subjects in feminist studies, including female representation, mother and child relationships, and LGBTIQ in mainland China.
